Community Council Minutes
November 6, 2025
3 pm GVES Faculty Room
Those in attendance: Arleen Jensen, Marci Childs, Melissa Christensen, Lisa Anderson, Elise Bown and Jodi Hansen
- Review and approve last month minutes: Penny read the minutes, a motion to approve was made by Lisa and seconded by Marci.
- Review the Rules of Procedures and Order: Community council is a voice for parents. Read through the rules. A motion to adopt the Rules and Procedures was made by Lisa and seconded by Jodi.
- Year to date funding: Money has been spent on Para Educators, Inservice Training ( Kagan & Jennifer), and Software. There were no questions.
- Safe Technology and Digital Citizenship: Each month there is a topic taught. You Tube has been banned, and Elementary I Pads stay at school.
- Safety Principles: I Love You Guys, Lock down first *One drill per month is required
- Wellness Policy: School Lunch offers a bigger variety than home lunch. Physical Activity is being promoted. Our new PE teacher is doing a great job at this. All grades except Kindergarten get 60 minutes of physical activity per week with 30 minutes of recess every day. Flex time was added to help kids catch up because recess is required.
- Halloween Parade: We had concerns with student safety. Parents were leaving in the middle of the parade who were parked in the center and crossed the parade route. Looking at moving it to the back grass or football field. Some suggestions were made to possible block off the parking lot, do it more as an actual parade, ask the kids if they even like it or even cancel it altogether. Maybe send out a survey to parents?
- Christmas Celebrations: Are both performances necessary? Could one be lived streamed during school? All members liked the program as it is.
